Earlier VNS Events
VNS summer excursion 2010
Our forthcoming summer event is an extra-special one.
It will take place on Saturday, 10 July, and is to Gloucestershire.
We shall lunch in the Old Hall at Badminton House, and by kind permission of the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort shall be allowed to view the gardens (not normally open on a Saturday). We shall be joined at lunch by our President, Gerald Harford.
In the afternoon we shall visit Little Sodbury Manor, formerly the home of Violet Needham's cousin Baron Francis de Tuyll and then of her nephew and great-nephew, Mark and Gerald Harford. It was used as the model for 'Merlyns'. The house is no longer open to the public, so we are very grateful to Lord and Lady Killearn, the present owners, for allowing us to visit. Lady Killearn has most kindly invited us to tea.
It is possible that numbers may have to be restricted. Although normally members are free to bring as many guests as they like, on this occasion we must restrict them to ONE only. Places will be allocated on a strictly first-come-first-served basis.
We are aware that there may be problems with transport. Members coming by car are asked to offer lifts whenever possible, either for the whole day or locally in Gloucestershire (e.g. collecting from Chippendham station, and between Badminton and Little Sodbury). If necessary we will lay on local transport (taxi or minibus), to be paid for on an ad hoc basis on the day by those concerned.
A booking form and a list of suggested trains
are included with the mailing to members, which you should have received by
now or receive very shortly.
